Dear Christian Friends, God is at work assembling a team of servants for Kairos Torch #4 at C.A. Dillon Youth Development Center in Butner, North Carolina. This will take place on Friday, May 21st through Sunday, May 23rd. We would like to ask you to pray about joining us as a servant of God in this life-changing ministry.

Kairos Torch begins with a 2 ½ day Christian weekend retreat. Through unconditional love, acceptance and affirmation, young people (ages 10-17) experience what life can be like in a loving, caring and trusting community. The Kairos experience promotes a process of transformation in which youth can see themselves as God's creation, unique and special. With increased self-respect and new ways of thinking, incarcerated boys are more able to make positive choices for their lives. Torch activities are safe, fun, exciting and spiritually rewarding.

It's a great ministry for couples as well as individuals.

We, as leaders for this fourth Kairos Torch weekend in Butner, North Carolina, are working diligently to recruit men and women with servant hearts for this inter-denominational team. If this is a possibility for you, please call 919-676-6431 or email mgustafson@moffattnichol.com to let us know of your interest.

We will have 5 team meetings. Team meetings will take place at Millbrook UMC in Raleigh and Community United Methodist Church in Butner, NC. They are scheduled as follows:

Saturday, March 13: 9 a.m. - 3:30 pm (Raleigh)

Saturday, March 27: 9 a.m. - 3:30 pm (Raleigh)

Saturday, April 10: 9 a.m. - 3:30 pm (Raleigh)

Saturday, April 24: 9 a.m. - 3:30 pm (Butner)

Saturday, May 8: 9 a.m. - 3:30 pm (Mentor Training, Butner)

You will find that we will place a serious and intentional focus on training. These team sessions will prepare you for this experience - both spiritually and in terms of your assigned position on the team.

Team members are very much encouraged to become a mentor. This is the most important part of the Kairos Torch ministry. The role of a mentor is to meet twice a month with their specifically chosen participant from the weekend. The mentor will model Christ's love for the youth by offering emotional and spiritual support, helping the mentee to develop life skills and self esteem, and increasing their ability to interact with people from various socio-economic, cultural and racial backgrounds. Mentor training will be an important part of the team training process.

We ask you to prayerfully consider serving as a Kairos Torch team member. We are sure you will find it to be a great joy and blessing.

Please let us know either way and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Mark Gustafson & Connie White
